Noah Shachtman

Editor-in-Chief, The Daily Beast

Noah Shachtman is the Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Beast.

Mr. Shachtman previously served as Executive Editor of The Daily Beast, overseeing the newsroom as it won 17 journalism awards for its coverage of national security, the arts, global affairs, entertainment, politics, and national news.

Prior to joining The Daily Beast, Mr. Shachtman was the Executive Editor for News at Foreign Policy and served as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Center for 21st Century Science and Intelligence.

Previously, he was a contributing editor at Wired magazine, where he co-founded and edited the publication’s national security blog, Danger Room. The site took home the Online Journalism Award for best beat reporting in 2007, and a 2012 National Magazine Award for reporting in digital media. Mr. Shachtman was named by the SANS Institute as one of the top cybersecurity journalists in the world in 2012.

Mr. Shachtman founded DefenseTech.org in 2003, which quickly emerged as one of the web’s leading resources on military hardware. The site was sold to Miliary.com in 2004. Before turning to journalism, Mr. Shachtman spent years worked as a professional bass player, book editor, and staffer on Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign.

He graduated from Georgetown University and is a former student of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
